Lift Up America
Vision Lift Up America is a nonprofit humanitarian aid movement that unites corporate America, professional sports and entertainment industries, and grassroots agencies with the working poor and their families. Our vision is to engage today’s leaders in cities across the nation to equip the less fortunate with life aid supporting their physical, emotional and personal development, resulting in increased hope for the future. We believe that hope is the true goal, for we believe it is hope that institutes transformation in someone’s life. We call this vision LIFE:abor – devoting resources of personal time L Influence – leveraging relationships and connections Finances – donating funds and in-kind products/services Expertise – committing unique skills and knowledge Lift Up America uses two unique strategies, professional sports and entertainment events, to provide our sponsors an opportunity to both meet the needs of the working poor and their families as well as connect with their target audiences. With current sponsors like Tyson Foods, Give the Gift of Sight Foundation, Interstate Batteries, Starkey Hearing Foundation and Cinemark Theatres, Lift Up America presents large, visible outreach events. The events bring together the products, gifts and services our sponsors donate with the families who are honored at the events. Our country faces serious challenges with 34 million Americans going to bed hungry every night, along with more than five million children who will never graduate from high school. Lift Up America stands in the gap to help solve these problems and maximize the impact that today’s leaders can have on the generational and working poor. Join with Lift Up America to inspire hope that makes a difference. Three Events Currently LUA offers three kinds of event that can lift up their city. Food Distribution First, our food distribution events can give a huge boost to the charitable agencies that serve in that community day in and day out. Movie Premiere Second, our movie premiere events provide less fortunate children and their families a thrilling experience as they arrive in a limousine, walk the red carpet cheered on by local leaders, sports figures, and other celebrities. They’ll see an entertaining movie and then receive a bag of free gifts as they head out. Stadium Event Third, our Stadium event provide a similar experience for the kids to be on the field of their favorite sports team. New Initiatives: LIFT OUR WORLD TM Lift our world (LOW) is a humanitarian aid movement that engages nations through compassion to lift up less fortunate families across our planet. Ambassadors of Compassion TM Ambassadors of compassion are individuals who have sympathy for the suffering of others and take action to help. Become a Lift Up America ambassador of compassion in your city. Tell us how you have helped someone in need in your family or community. Tell us your story at info@liftupamerica.org. History Lift Up America began when Dave Hannah, Chairman and CEO of IMPACT XXI, and Marvin Kehler, CEO of GAiN International, began to talk about providing more compassionate aid around the world. Shortly thereafter, Dave Hannah and John Tyson, Chairman and CEO of Tyson Foods, met. Dave was aware that Tyson gave away large quantities of food every year, and he wanted to discuss the possibility of giving away food around the world. Dave then contacted Clark Hunt, owner of the Kansas City Chiefs, and Wayne Huizenga, Jr., owner of the Miami Dolphins, asking them if their organizations would participate in an event to distribute food to the less fortunate in their home cities. Both the Dolphins and the Chiefs enthusiastically seized the opportunity. Also part of the team were Ted Gandy, Director of Here’s Life Inner City, Marvin Kehler and Duane Zook, leaders of GAiN International, and Bill Pugh, President of Athletes in Action. Here’s Life Inner City recruited numerous charitable organizations in Miami and Kansas City. Athletes in Action created booklets containing inspirational stories on the lives of some Dolphin and Chief players to be distributed. On December 28, 2004, the plan came together. Tyson Foods and Ty Inc. teamed with the Miami Dolphins and the Kansas City Chiefs and over 30 charitable organizations to distribute 74,000 pounds of frozen chicken (equivalent to 370,000 meals) and 20,000 Ty teddy bears to people in need. This one-day event was a success in every regard. In 2005, LUA’s efforts expanded exponentially as 27 sports teams in 23 cities helped LUA and its partners lift up the less fortunate around America.
